- Hold a referendum on residence requirement for police officers, mandating they live in the municipality they serve. This would be actual “community policing” as opposed to the public relations stunt it currently is. Example: The city of Pittsburgh has had a residency requirement for police officers since 1902 and in 2014 reaffirmed that policy with a referendum vote by city residents.
FACT: As of 2010, Rochester had the 5th highest race gap between officers and residents in cities with the 75 largest police forces in America.
- Call for legislation for an Independent Civilian Review Board with subpoena powers.
- End the War on Drugs by decriminalizing marijuana.
- “Ban the Box” countywide.
- Grant amnesty and commute sentences for prisoners of non-violent offenses.
- Reform the criminal justice system with restorative justice models building off the work of Restorative Rochester and Finger Lakes Restorative Justice Center.
